Clean Enough for the Mrs.
from Sag Harbor Yacht Club Magazine

Sure you are a free magazine, but one of the best as far as articles and points of interest that is out there. I have seen a lot of magazines that charge a lot and do not come close to the fun I get out of reading your articles and just good stuff.
I would like to let you know of a New England company that makes a few products that work so well it is scary. Quantum Pure Aire Corp. of Warwick, R.I. has units you put in your boat and wothin hours the odors that you thought would never go away do. I had two main problems. One, holding tank odor that was so bad a skunk would think it should come over to check out its mate. The other, a mold problem so bad that my wife looked over her shoulder every time we went out thinking people thought she never took a bath.
We put an item called a BilgeBuster in where the holding tanks was and a CabinAire in the salon and in hours (I think eight) we had no more odor, the mold was dead and a boat that was the boat from Hell was the best boat in our marina. Anythiny that had an odor now did not, including my wife. Maybe I should change that to say my wife's clothing now had no odor.  R.B. Syracuse, NY

Eliminate Cabin Odors
Southwind Sailing Magazine

We had a major problem with odor coming out of the bilge of the boat and a strong odor in the living area as well. The odor had gotten into the furniture, carpet, walls, etc. We purchased both items from Quantum Pure Aire Corp. When we put in the item called a BilgeBuster down in the section of the bilge where the odor was coming from, all the odor stopped coming into the boat. When we put a CabinAire into the living area, within hours all that odor also went away and the carpet, furniture and walls were as good as new. We also noticed that mold on the door sliders had died, and now the sliders work great. Our friends noticed that when they were aboard and we cook, there are no food odors. Bottom line: no more mold/mildew and no more odors from anything on anything. B.P. St.Petersburg, FL

DIY boat owner - The MARINE MAINTENANCE MAGAZINE
by Marla Russell, founder of Women Aboard

Last year we purchased a SalonMate air purification system by Quantum Pure Aire Corp. Originally, we had intended to use ot on our boat, but other circumstances warranted its use.
A long-time tenant vacated one of our rental properties earlier this year. While inspecting the hose after his departure, we discovered that there was a leak around the window in the shower. The tenant had never mentioned this, but we suspect that the leak was there for some time, as the wall behind the tile was definitely bulging. My husband took a crowbar and popped off one the tiles and that was all it took for the entire wall to come down. ...awful stench, soaked insulation and rotted wood...
There was no way that we could do any more work in the bathroom until the smell was gone. At first, we set up an exhaust fan and closed the room off. But the next day the smell was just as bad if not owrse, Then my husband remembered the SalonMate and retrieved it from our son, who had been using it at his place. We put it in the bathroom of the duplex, though we were skeptical of its promises. It took a couple of days, but that terrible smell was completely and permanently eliminated.
Now this unit's back onboard and our boat is odor-free.

Removing Bilge Odors?

I am writing this from onboard our retirement home, a 42 foot trawler. We are presently enroute through the Great Lakes, with a goal of circumnavigating Lake Superior. Oh, how wonderful it is to be retired on a trawler!
I have some important input to your June article on boat odors. When we bought our boat used in 1998, there was a certain smell in the V-berth, galley, and dining areas. Down in the bilge are two black water tanks (135 gallons), two gray water tanks (80 gallons), at least a half-mile of hose, dozens of T-connectors, and five Y-valves.
For two years, we tried everything to get rid of the smell - which was at worst, disgusting, and at best, just bearable. We scrubbed and cleaned but never could reach all areas.
Then we spent $2,000, in parts and labor, replacing hoses, connectors, valves, vent odor filters, and everything else that we thought money could buy.
    The smell was still there!
Then I gave the friendly people at Quantum Electronics a call. They advertise in PMM. Even though I have no interest in this company, I just have to praise their products.
After consulting with them, I installed their BilgeBuster in our boat. Within 10 hours, our odor nightmare of more than two years was gone completely. The odor has never come back.
This little ozone machine draws one amp and sits quietly in the bilge, doing its job. It was easy to install and works 100 percent to eliminate odors of any kind.
I highly recommend this product for any owner with an odor issue on a boat. It really works.
We love PassageMaker Magazine, and keep all of the issues on a book shelf for frequent reference. You folks should be proud of a job well done. Thank you very much!

BilgeBuster Saves Birthday
condensed from letter to the editor of Living Aboard.

A while back I was looking thru my stack of Living Aboard when I came upon an ad for a  product that I thought could be an answer to my live-aboard prayer. Did you ever go to bed and wake up with your boat smelling like nothing you ever wanted anything to smell like, and it is in your clothing, bedding, carpet, everywhere.
Our holding tank hose let go just two weeks before my on-board birthday party. My husband had asked his boss to come, and to my horror, ha had said he would love to.
Discovered an ad for Quantum Pure Aire and an item called the BilgeBuster. I am the biggest non-believer you have ever met and thought, "Ya sure, what is it going to do, bust my bilge?"
They repaired their broken hose and cleaned up the bilge, but nothing would remove the odor. Last resort, they called Quantum who recommended both the BilgeBuster 400 and a Cabin Aire. The purchased both items.

In a few days they arrived, and we put them in. That was the easy part. We went out to a movie and dinner and returned. The odor was still there. We went to bed and rose at 7a.m. No odor! I could not believe it. The mold was dead, and the holding tank odor was gone. It has not returned. I now live in the best smelling boat you can image. Mary M.

Bilge Odors Take a Quantum Leap

In the past, I've read some positive letters in PMM about the BilgeBuster from Quantum Electronics. Here is another.

I bought not only the BilgeBuster but the Roommate. They both work. The BilgeBuster does exactly what it says. Leave it on and presto, bilge odors are gone!

The Roommate unit, when first left on a week while I was away, killed all the odors on my 43-foot trawler. Even the sliding cabinet doors now work better. Mildew is a thing of the past.

Diesel odor still occasionally prevails, but musty, dank odors are all gone, even cat odor.

Ozone has a lifespan of 30 minutes. As I'm bothered by ozone (I was exposed to high concentrations of it during my professional career), I turn the unit off when I arrive at the boat, then I wait outside for it to dissipate. Quantum's Barry Newman suggested I install a timer, as I usually board at noon on weekends.

I recommend that if you leave your boat shut tight for any length of time, an ozone generator really works.

opening cabinents, drawers, and lifting up mattresses is a must, however.

PMM is terrific, and the increase in advertisers, especially those we don't see elsewhere, is a good thing.

Quantum receives many letters in the mail similar to this one, praising Quantum's products. Their products have solved problems on pleasure craft, yachts, commercial boats, cruise ships, offices, homes, RVs, businesses, etc. etc. We tried to included these marine application stories because marine odors can be the most difficult to control.

If you're still not convinced, you can email me directly with any questions you may have.
